What’s Up!!!

By

It’s Sunday. We went to hear mass early in the morning and then ate a bountiful breakfast.  We had to eat  much;  for one of the plans for the day was to mow the lawn. And before mowing, leaves should be gathered in paper garbage bags. There were lots of fallen leaves and still they are falling. Here  in Canada it is Fall. I remember the song,” The Falling Leaves”,,,our time..Wait till it’s winter, my sister-in-law told me .when all the trees will be bare of leaves. As of now, the color of the leaves  are changing..from green, yellow, red, brown then bare. I love to see these all happening.   There are still many maple trees with green leaves though. Flower pots are already stored inside the garage, the living room, kitchen wherever there is a space for them. Back to our activities for the day..Sunday after mass….My brother brought out his lawn mower and he...

A Visit to Cesar’s Family

By

It was Saturday morning when I thought of calling our youngest brother who lives nearby. They also live in Scarborough, Toronto. I miss his dish, Filipino dish,” Pinapaitan”.  He is a good cook. When he was in the Philippines, he used to be the cook, the butcher and many more. He knows how to right things. He used to cook delicious food for us and for my mom when she was still alive. It so happened that the next day which is today is the birthday of his son, Joshua, our nephew. He prepared the dish, with the needed papait taste, calamansi and patis,  green pepper and calamansi by Chit for  to complete the right taste. It was delicious. There were more food like friend chicken thighs, breasts, paksiw lechon ( take out for Joshua given by friends) , shrimps, steamed beans, denengdeng cooked by Chit. The preparation was not complete without bagoong, beer and coke. Chit , Jun ,...

Pumpkins For Sale

By

On this day, October 14, 2013, we had a chance to see and pick out pumpkin anybody would wish to buy. Opposite the apple orchard was the pumpkin plantation where you could pick out and pick what you would want to buy. There were lots of them scattered in the field.  And if you prefer something larger you can just go on the farthest side of the field to pick what you want. For us we just had a pose with  the pumpkins . Anyway, a remembrance with pumpkins around served our purpose in going there for the pumpkins were too heavy to carry...

Apple Picking

By

I was excited. Apple picking with  my brothers,, Jun and Cesar, Chit and Beth was an unforgettable experience for me. Imagine from the apple in a box to the apple picking from the tree. Nature’s Bounty Orchard in Port Perry was our destination. There was no entrance fee. At the information they already let us taste the apple, sweet and crispy. They told us to pick and eat and will pay the apples we placed inside the plastic bag. We could eat and taste as many as we would want. We could decide how much we would like to buy. Estimate the weight of the apples that we could afford to pay. There were many kinds of apples. some were red, green and we had to taste which of those were we going to bring home. There were names of apples in every row so we could choose and taste them. Took a bite and if we didn`t like the taste just throw them away. It was a lifetime experience. It was a...

Pre-Celebration of Thanksgiving Day

By

I have two brothers and a sister here. Cesar lives near Jun while Fely lives in Waterloo. All of them have their families here. The family decided to have the celebration in Jun n Chit’s abode. It would be pot lock. Every one of them would share their dish.  Beth, wife of Cesar cooked Pancit while Cesar had Dinakdakan. There was no Pinapaitan because he thought it would be lunch and we had dinner with hard drinks for the two, Ted, husband of Fely and Cesar. There they had drank more than enough. All ingredients provided by Chit n Jun, Fely cooked kaldereta, denengdeng and fried tilapia. The night before, Chit prepared buko salad and nilupak.  She also baked banana bread.  Ted ordered fried wings. Every food was delicious. Trip to Toronto

By

I thought I had to take a shuttle bus in going to the airport on this first trip to Toronto. It worried me for many days on how I would do it, what time I had to wake up to catch up whatever be the time of the shuttle bus. But when my daughter told  me that she and her couple friends would drive me to the airport I was relieved from my worries. It was 6:45 in the morning when the couple picked us up for my flight to  Toronto. The scheduled flight was at 9am and the boarding time was 8:45. It was still early when we arrived at the airport. My daughter accompanied me to the check-in counter for my luggage.  It had been easy. My documents were all ready because I was briefed by my daughter on what to prepare. Besides, I had also my experience years ago on what to bring when I travelled to US and went to Buffalo to meet my brother’s family. I had to enter the check- in counter alone...

Masses I Attended for This Week

By

I feel blessed this day. I have gone to mass early at St. Andrews Cathedral here at Victoria. My daughter suggested that I go to mass during ordinary days. It was Wednesday, Sept. 18 and I decided to go and hear mass. It was my first venture to go out alone. I told myself I wouldn’t be lost for I could memorize the streets where i would pass by. At first, I was apprehensive in going out alone but then with my adventurous streak and will to see and attend mass at a holy hour made me rush out to see Victoria, especially the church for myself. I arrived early and the church wasn’t still open so I went around the block many times before it was open. I entered the exit door for that was only the door open. I thought it was for exit only but when I saw saw church goers enter the door I came in too. Inside the church, i admire the ambiance. It was so solemn and a drop of a needle...

A Glimpse of Vancouver, Surrey and Richmond

By

On the 14th of September, Maricel, Zet and I embarked to Vancouver. We took the B.C. Ferry with Tiny, the car of Maricel. The ferry unlike in the Philippines wherein we use the Roro to carry the cars or buses to the other side of the sea. The ferry here in Canada is wide and big. It could carry hundreds of cars or buses and passengers. You couldn’t feel that it was moving. When we disembarked in Surrey, or first destination was Vancouver. So, Tiny and the three of us went through the long drive from Surrey to Vancouver. Thus, we reached Canada Place and looked for a parking area so that we could go around and at the same time eat brunch..breakfast and lunch. We looked for a Japanese  restaurant for their famous Ramen. both Maricel and I had Ramen while Zet had sushi and another soup..with shrimps. The food was delicious. From there, we went around, first near the dock, or on top...
